Study 01 • Yosemite

Granite mass + water flow.

This study translates granite faces, open valley, and water movement into a layered textile composition. It holds tension between weight and openness—hard edges, soft gradients, and the pull of the Merced River.

Study Notes
From field observation to distilled composition.

Each Wildlands design begins as a field-led observation: a walk, a view, a sketch, a photograph—then a process of reduction. Yosemite abstracts dominant icons and a few repeating cues—sky, vertical granite planes, valley, and the river’s implied motion— then refines them through layering until the print reads clearly and minimally.

The goal is functional, minimal representation: a bandana that can live in the field, but also stand on its own as a graphic object. Small decisions are tuned for screenprint legibility and durability on organic cotton.
